Obama Hails Supreme Court’s Gay Marriage Ruling

U.S. President Barack Obama celebrates the Supreme Court's decision, saying it offers ''all loving same-sex couples the dignity of marriage''. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday (June 26) said a Supreme Court decision granting gay people the right to marriage nationwide reaffirms that all Americans are protected equally under the law. "This system will end the patchwork system we currently have," Obama said in the White House Rose Garden. "It will end the uncertainty hundreds of thousands of same-sex couples face from not knowing whether their marriage legitimate in the eyes of one state will remain if they decide to move to another state." The Supreme Court earlier on Friday ruled 5-4 in favor of same-sex marriages. "This ruling will strengthen all of our communities by offering to all loving same-sex couples the dignity of marriage across this great land," Obama added, before exiting the podium to applause.
