‘Asian Girlz’ Removed From The Internet By Day Above Ground Following Backlash

Asian GirlzBecause sometimes justice is indeed served, the backlash to the unimaginably offensive video "Asian Girlz" has been so gargantuan that Day Above Ground will remove the clip from the Internet. The bro-ish group told TMZ on Friday that the negative responses they've received have become threatening, even though they claim to have meant it as "satire" and "comedy." The guys will yank the vulgar video "for the safety of ourselves and for everybody we know. We don’t want anybody to get hurt." (Except a large faction of the Asian population, obviously.)

"Asian Girlz" premiered last weekend and built viral momentum throughout the week thanks to racist lyrics like "B----, I love you / I love your creamy yellow thighs / Ooh, your slanted eyes." The song also called into question the legality of the band members' intentions: "17 or 23, it doesn't matter to me!"

During their TMZ interview, Drew Drumm, Joe Anselm and Mike Tourage refused to acknowledge whether they'd been receiving death threats but did say they "didn’t expect it to be such a backlash."

"It comes from a good place," lead singer Anselm told a Bay Area NBC affiliate station this past week. "I'm sure it's hard for a lot of people to believe that, but we've all had close relationships with the Asian community, Asian people. There's guys in the band with Asian women. It's just, it's hard to believe we're getting this kind of backlash."

The video -- which has gone on to receive more than 1.1 million YouTube views -- will disappear at midnight on Saturday because Day Above Ground wants everyone to have a "fair chance to see it, maybe even see it again for what it really is." How altruistic of them, no?
